"Sex and the Cancer Survivor" - Dr. Laurie Baily of Aurora Healthcare spoke on August 20, 2008 about ways that cancer survivors can take proactive steps before, during and after treatment to minimize effects on sexual well-being.
"Frankly Speaking about Lung Cancer" - A proactive approach for dealing with lung cancer was presente in a November 7, 2007 workshop. Dr. Nicholas Choong of the Medical College of Wisconsin discussed treatment strategies for symptom/side effect management and tools for survivorship.
"Team Approach to Prostate Cancer" - On September 26, 2007 a panel of experts facilitated a workshop discussing the TEAM Approach: Prostate Cancer Treatment, Education, Awareness and Management. A urologist, a licensed clinical social worker, and a prostate cancer survivor, shared their experiences.
"Beyond Positive Thinking" - Based on the Innate Health model of mental well-being, this lecture on August 15, 2007 focused on one's capacity for resilience. It challeged participants to go beyond positive thinking and learn how understanding their minds to improve one's own sense of well-being. Esther Grinnell, CISW, trained in innate health at Pransky and Associates in La Conner, WA facilitated the lecture that was co-sponsored by Pathways to Healing of Jewish Family Services.

"Psychosocial Oncology Panel Discussion" - On July 27, 2007, oncology experts discussed two recently completed papers commissioned by Gilda's Club Worldwide. The first paper, written by Helen-Maria Lekas, PhD, Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health looks at six major trends in the field of psychosocial oncology: the cancer survivorship movement, end-of-life issues, genetic testing, internet support, complementary and alternative treatment and the relationship between emotions and cancer. The second paper by Karolynn Siegel, PhD also from Columbia University reviews the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions.

"The Healing Power of Words" - The words we use have the power to define and shape our world. Well-known lecturer Elizabeth Lewis spoke on March 27, 2007 about how writing can help you deal with stress, pain, illness and loss, as well as be very enjoyable. Pathways to Healing of Jewish Family Services co-sponsored this lecture.

"Now That Feels Better" - Does the thought of chemotherapy and its side effects - like nausea - make you anxious? Amy Rene'Ford, RN, N, OCN addressed these feelings at her February 27, 2007 lecture at Gilda's Club. Listen to her presentation on ways to feel better during chemotherapy and information on what to expect, questions to ask and steps to take to better manage nausea and vomiting during the course of treatment.

" Why Me G-d?" - How do we retain our faith when living with adversity. Can we be believing and pragmatic at the same time? Local teacher of Jewis mysticism, Rabbi Shais Taub discussed these topics at a February 8, 2007 lecture at Gilda's Club, co-sponsored by Pathways to Healing of Jewish Family Services.
